The United Kingdom was established in 1801 by a union of Great Britain and Ireland ( southern Ireland withdrew in 1922 when it was granted home rule) The landscape is mountains in the north and west , giving way to lowlands in the south and east.
Trade and immigration traditionally came from the commonwealth , but now come mainly from the European union .
Employment is primarily in the manufacturing and service industries , although agriculture is still an important source of jobs.
The politacle parties of the UK are mainly made up from the Labour party , the conservative party and the Liberal democrats.
